We are holding a half day multidisciplinary workshop at ACM CHI Play 2015 on:

4th October 2015: 9am-1pm.

We invite authors (primarily PhD and early career researchers working in different disciplines) to present their ideas and research at this workshop.

We are seeking submission of abstracts of 1000-1500 words from presenters.

There will be 10 mins for a presentation and 15 min of questions.

We will have approximately 10 more participants attending for discussion. We ask those interested in attending as participants only to email us outlining their interest in the workshop, their background, and what they think they might bring to the event.

We are also looking for initial expressions of interest so anyone wanting to come along please email us so we get an idea of numbers at:

gamesandvalues@gmail.com

Please see the about page and draft paper for more detailed background on the workshop. Some key questions we hope to explore are:

Why are games particularly useful for considering human values?

What are the best examples we have seen thus far of game being used in this way?

What kinds of social issues and values do we want games to explore?

Is it the appropriate for games to be used in this way to consider ‘big’ social issues?

The abstracts should outline the background context, research approach, main contribution and points for discussion.

We welcome both completed and ongoing works, as the workshop focus is on critical reflection and discussion. Demonstrations and posters will also be considered.

In addition to work traditionally associated with HCI and games studies, we are interested in theories, concepts, methods and ideas from those in the humanities and social sciences too.

Thus, we welcome submissions from philosophy, cultural studies, media studies, sociology, politics

This workshop is being sponsored by the Research Council UK Digital Economy Network and we especially welcome submissions from those within this network.
